Our research lab at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), in the Dept. of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and the Sealy Center for Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics, focuses on developing and applying computational approaches to study Protein-Protein Interactions (PPIs). These approaches examine the molecular biophysics and interaction pathways of PPIs at both molecular and systems-wide levels.

We currently have 1-2 postdoc, 1 technician, and 2 PhD student position openings.

Postdoc Researcher

You had doctoral research in computational biophysics, biochemistry, computer science, bioinformatics, or other related computational sciences fields. You are a motivated researcher, passionate to discover the world and deliver some independent research. You are eager to learn or apply the state-of-art ML/AI methods to biology questions and you want to build a career in computational biology or biophysics.

PhD Student

You hold a B.S. or M.S. in physical sciences or life sciences related majors. You have some programming experience and are willing to develop more. You are fansicated about how life phenomena happen in the molecular level. If yes, contact us and let’s explore together!

Lab Technician

You hold a B.S. or M.S. in bioinformatics or computer science, with programming experience in C/C++, Python or Perl (experience with Perl or building web servers is an added bonus). You’re curious about gaining more exposure to ML/AI-led interdisciplinary research before deciding on a PhD or industry path. You write comments in your codes. If yes, contact us and let’s build the world together!

Located in Galveston, Texas – a beautiful island just south of Houston, UTMB has the first medical school in Texas and the nation’s frst public medical school and hospital under unifed leadership. It is involved in the world-class biomedical research community – Texas Medical Center (TMC) – the largest medical complex in the world. There are exceptional opportunities for scientifc research and career development. As one example, multiple local predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships are available.

When you are ready, please email Dr. Zhao (hazhao@utmb.edu) with your CV, motivation and/or any thoughts if you are interested in joining us!
